Hi there
I got this problem the other day.
My break lights and ABS and hand break light turned on during a trip , my breaks are new and buy the way the speedometer is also off and above this the car is in limp mode.
Can any one help me out, so how can i fix it .
The car is a mercedes 230 kompressor 1996.
It is about 1 month ago the brakes was change all the rotors and pads is new when the fail lights came on I went and got the hand brakes change to and dobbelt check all wheels was ok but all ligts still on.
What to do??
I might say I have the same problem with my 1998 C230K...
I have changed the gearbox oil and oil filter on the regular 75000 miles and it still kicks hard when shifting into second or into third after a really quick start... I think it has to do with the oil temperature, because after a mile or two it runs really smooth...

That would lead me to question the source being a faulty part.
I know it sounds like a petty issue, but when this happens, the rear wheels lock up momentarily, sending you lurching forwards.
BTW, to amplify my earlier post re the battery, you can tell whether your car was a part of the recall by the big stickers placed over the original battery maintenance info in your owner's manual.
To be fair, in my case the battery explosion was triggered by me opening my cell-phone as I reached into the trunk to get my things. Nonetheless, my trunk was obviously and abnormally full of explosive gas from the battery. All it needed was a spark..
I might be late with this, but did you check the pedal switch???
I changed the pedal switch and lights went off.. 20$ for the part satisfaction for me for a job nicely done...

There is a switch on the brake pedal that you should check...
Easy to take it out, I can't remember if it's normally on or normally of...
If you push it by hand and the lights are still on, try to short the plug... If the lights are still on you either have some faults in the wiring (dashboard mainly) or some shorts in the dashboard cluster itself...
Better check it with a good electrician...
The car is worth the money!

Hi! I have a 1999 Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor... PLEASE HELP The BAS/ASR light came on after a road trip, and the super charger and the brakes are both malfunctioning while the light is on! We also have the check engine light come on which shows O2 Sensor Issues. Feel free to email me directly if you can help me correct the problem(s)! Thanx, I appreciate it
Hey! Right now we're in michigan, there was a snow storm the other day, and we drove last night under winter conditions, in the 1999 C280 Kompressor there's a winter driving switch, so we use that, it helps you slow down on the turns and not slide on the ice and snow.
Thank you for your post, we will definately check that out later on tonight and will let you know if it fixed the problem! Hopefully its nothing serious, we took it to the Mercedes dealership and they wouldn't tell us whats wrong, just wanted us to pay $330 for just a checkup so we figured we'll do a better job ourselves! Thanks for helping you guys
