I own a 1994 C280,about 151,000km i had recently changed all sparkplugs, and wires for my benz, i have also changed the whole front end harness of the car due to the car misfireing. The car drove well for a couple of months after but i have had a sudden problem. When i come to a complete stop the car idle's really rought also i smell a bad smell someting like gas im not too sure sometimes (bad catalytic converter smell?) but when i press on the gas i have to step all the way to the floor for the car to move,(it wont even increase rpm when i touch the gas) there are no engine lights, and the car is not overheating what could be problem???.. THe car will run normally until this problem occurs n it would not go away until i park the car n drive it the next day also the lights on the dash begin to glow a little...(my guess someting serious?) Would a blocked catalytic converter be the problem.
I have a MB C230 (1997) and at 3200 RPM the car sputters, spits, stalls, and backfires at 3200 (+/-) RPM. Sometimes (most) it will NOT start up AT ALL. Leave it, come back, and it fires up after about 5 or 6 revolutions of the engine.
Is there info (dont have a service manual) for checking the ranges of: THE MAF sensor and IGNITION COILS (2)? What are the values (and which pins?).
I know coil basics and the primaries are somewhat normal (unstable) at around 0.1 Ohms, but I cannot get anything out of the secondaries (which are typically in the 10-15K Ohm range). Please help, diagrams, links, anything at this point.
When the car DOES start, it'll seems like it finally realizes that I am trying to start the darn thing up and it starts, and idles fine. But, when you try to accellerate about 3200 RPM, it runs like a GO-Kart instead of a MBenz.
Also, press the accellerator completely to the floor (Wide-Open-Throttle) and it spits, sputters, stalls and BACKFIRES (pops) too..
Please help, replaced wired, plugs, air filter, (MAF 7months ago).
Thanks in advance.

when was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? i know there is a really long service interval on them, but if its never been done... maybe its clogged.

I ruled out fuel filter. When the car doesn't start, there is no spark. I've ordered a crank pos sensor and I'll try that first.
The low beam headlights are not working on my 1996 C220, Does anyone know where the headlight relays are located. I have checked all fuses, lamps, plugs and wiring. My next move is to remove the wheel and check the stalk switch. (in the past, I have also had a problem with the intermitent wiper, making me suspect the stalk switch). Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Rusty Burns, 985-966-5013, Louisiana
was your intermittent wiper ever fixed? i had a problem with that before, and at the same time the turn signals were intermittent, along with the rear window defroster. there is a multifunction relay that was intermittent that caused all those to not work correctly, because that relay controls all those. however the low beams is something else. its possible that it could be related, however the only thing in your stalk related to lights is the high/low beam switch.
i recommend posting a thread with your problem, and you should get more help. this area is for problems that have been solved so other people with possibly the same problem can find answers.
in your thread, let us know if the high beams work, the fog lights work, the more information the better
1995 c280.......one of my tail lights isnt getting power...and a little box in my trunk with wires connected to it keeps vibrating on and off...please help
