1999 C230 Rust Problem - Benzworld.org

I have a 1999 C230 with significant rust developing on the bottom panels of both rear door openings. In addition rust is occuring in the area just below the mid-line trim moulding on both the left and right read doors. Anyone else seeing this?

[:(] I can't believe you posted this. I actually I thought I wrote this. I wrote the same thing on mbworld.org. I have rust at the bottom of two doors and under the door trim. I took the trim off, very simple, and was amazed at what I saw. I think I'm going to treat that area myself, as its hard to see from the outside. I have a 99 C230 as well.

- from what I have been told, the rust from under the trim is due to the trim vibrating against the door. To fix this I have applied a layer of duct tape behind the trim in an effort to cushion it....I dont know....

Yes I have been told that too... My rust is very visible curbside at both the bottom of the rear doors and beneath the trim moulding.

I found this post (Detailing and Car Care)

"Go to any big auto parts store and get a "paint/rust removal pen". It looks like a mechanical pencil, but instead of "lead", it has a tight cluster of fiberglass fibers. Brush it back and forth across the affected spot, and it will remove the loose paint, rust, and any embedded wax/polish. When you're done, clean up the area with some alcohol, let it dry, and use some touch-up paint to cover the bare metal."

Is this the trim inside or outside the door? A friend has a '99 C230K with an annoying buzzing sound coming from somewhere inside the driver's door. Raising or lowering the window doesn't seem to affect the noise (other than adding wind noise when the window is down).

Its outside the door, sorry.

I popped the rust bubbles, sanded, and applied rustoleum(*sp). I am then going to paint + clear coat over. The paint is coming from LA, so with the hurricaine it has been delayed....

In the inside part of the bottom of my drivers door there is a spot of rust. I did find sand embedded in behind the rubber gasket which triggered this for sure...and washed it all out and sprayed some rust inhibitor.
