1986 190E 2.3 Starter problem

Hi:

I tried to start my car today and it failed despite the fact that my battery's in good shape. Is it a starter problem? If yes, where can I find an easy replacement for that part so that I won't have to spend too much at the mechanics.

Please help.

Thanks,
Cindy
Re: 1986 190E 2.3 Starter problem

does it even crank? i have a similar problem, no crank at all. i found the problem to be to a loose safety sensor that acts not to start the engine if the shifter is not on the 'P' park position. but ieven though mine is is the 'P' position, sometimes it starts sometimes it won't. in some cases i even have to wiggle the shifter to make the sensor connects.
if anybody here knows how to fix my problem please do help.
appreciated,
josesoriano

found the problem as we raise the car. the bushing on the shifter to transmission connection is gone, needs to be replace and tighten the whole connection. hope this will fix the problem.
