schematic

Hi, I also need a copy of the schematic. Have a friend who has a 190e 1992. replaced front speakers with 4" infinity. the drivers side front had two sets of leads going to the speaker? anyone know what the second set was for? It had a connector which I just disconnected. Also the door speakers do not work at all and there is no sound on the right side. Can anyone tell me how to re-wire if I replace with an in dash single cd unit? thanks, jtg

Door Speaker Connection

Hi 2Phast,

You seem to have the greatest knowledge of the w201 6 speaker system. I found the wires from the amp/door speakers just as you said behind the deck before the fader switch. (previous install had left them cut) My question is, would I connect the door speakers to the front r/l output or the rear r/l output? I would assume the front but would like confimation. Thanks alot!

I am betting that second set of wires goes to the speakers that are not working. It most likely is just wiring the second set in parallel with the front speakers. So MB just added two speakers into the system by wiring them in parallel with the front and not having to change any designs with the stereo unit or the fader in the center console. If that makes sense.

RE: 190E Six speaker system (Door speakers not working)

Sorry to drag an old one up but it seems appropriate.

1991 190E 2.3. The door speakers barely work, and radio volume is very low.

Rolling the fader knob back and forth makes the door speakers crackle.

I'm thinking the fader is bad as other treads suggest, but we say here that they don'r run trough the fader?

Any thoughts?

RE: 190E Six speaker system (Door speakers not working)

Dragging up a REALLLLLLY old one, but my speakers are only working all along the drivers side, NONE on the passengers side. Fader roll makes snaps and crackles, extremely low sound. Dreaded amp failure? Hope I fair better at response than did DuckRyder

Possibly... Keep mind that our cars are 11 years old at best ;) I would highly recomend replacing all of the factory speakers and running new wires to each, completely ignoring the factory amp (located in the trunk, passenger fender) and running all of your new speakers from the new head unit or an amp if you can afford it...

Yeah, Baby Carlsson, you are right. (Nice name, btw. :)) Darndest thing is I JUST priced the same job for my W140 S-Class. By pass EVERYTHING and get it hooked up right for about $650 at the shop all the BIG car dealers (including Benz)sends their cars to around hear. Now THIS. But yeah, I think the amp alone will do in this case.

RE: 190E Six speaker system (Door speakers not working)

To be honest with you, W201 cars are some of the simplest to install the sound system and rewire. It's rather stright forward.

Speaker wires can easily be ran under the carpet on either side... Power wire for the amp can be ran under the carpet on the pass. side, stright from the battery, no holes to drill in the fire wall. RCA cables - Driver's side...

Not sure how do they come up with those prices, when I worked at Circuit City (roadshop, years ago), installation charges were as follows:

*Pair of speakers $50 (so you have 3 sets - dash, doors and rear deck) $150
*Deck/head unit $40
*Amp $50
*Speaker wire + an amp kit $50-$60

So $350-$400... I guess the prices went up on installation?

Lessee...,

-Amp: $200-$350. This price was with me buying a 4 channel amp from them. Of course, Ebay may come into play here.

-$150 Installation labor. (ouch)

-$90 Amp parts(?) (comments here??)

-$80 speaker install ($40.00 per pair installion on speakers. I have 4 Infinity speakers for the rear deck.)

So there is your rough, $650ish high end estimate. Of course, I'll widdle that down before I make a move. I'm CERTAIN that price carries alot of "$NAME$" with it, but I accepted that when i went there. This is the place the local Ferrari owner takes their car, but mainly, they have a Mercedes specialist who really knows his stuff. He rebuilt a w140 amp that day.

RE: 190E Six speaker system (Door speakers not working)

Since the quote includes the amp, it's a fair "market" price.
