I have been looking for a 190E for my wife. I am not sure on what year or what size engine. I was thinking about 87'-91 with low miles, around 100k and lower for under $5 or 6K. If you have any recommendations or can steer me in the right direction, I would sure appreciate it. I want to find out more info on the 2.3 vs. the 2.6, the 4 cylinder vs. the 4-16 valve vs. the V-6. I would like to know what major repair problems occur with these cars. I heard from a mechanic around 120K you need to change the timing chain (about $500-$700 job). I also heard the AC units tend to go out and are expensive units. Overall, I hear they are reliable cars built like tanks. What should I look for when looking at used 190E's besides burn oil, leak oil, accident records, service records, number of owners, etc. Should I worry about engine compression? Any help would be great.

I have been intending to sell my 190e. its a 1986 model, so the front lights are not the same as the ones you have listed in your add, however, every thing else is the same. My brother has a 1993, mine has one extra gauge (fuel economy) and a few switches in different spots.
I have had all repair work done, new water pump, starter, fuel pump - the timing belt was not changed but checked and it was in super shape.
the wrongs: the rear windows dont roll down, recently my cassette deck ( still the original Becker) has started to act funny.
it has close to 140K miles on it, dark (midnight) blue in color - still the original paint however its in great shape. I am selling the car for 4000 or best offer - in other words if you like the car, we can work on the price. take care and best of luck in your search
