Air Intake on 2.6
ok so i have a couple questions.
1. Can I cut off that little lip of the air intake behind the grille so my engine will get a bit more air or is it pointless?
2. I cant just buy a K&N and bolt it on can I?

I cut the air intake flap off, though i don't know how much it really helped
If you want a K&N get the drop in kind that fits in the stock airbox

Are you dead set in your plan to lower the performance of your engine?

No offense, but this issue about aftermarket intakes has been repeatedly discussed in this forum and nearly every other Mercedes forum that I am aware of.
There's never been any showing that our engines are starved for air.
I will admit that I had a "Jay's Intake" several years ago on my 2.3L. I kept it on for a year. There was certainly no mpg improvement and performance improvement seemed to be exclusively from the increased engine bay noise.
We're all waiting for the purveyors of the "tube and cone" devices to spend some of their profits on good "before and after" dyno tests establishing their hp claims.
