I'm interested in buying a 1990 190E..... recently looked at one in excellent shape, the owner indicates that it has a 2.36Litre, 6 cylinder engine. In my browsing of sites I've noticed considerable discssion on the various engines in these models... my questions is "Is this engine reliable and is it sluggish?"
how's the gas mileage and reliability of this engine ??
thanks for the comments..
Well, according to Fueleconomy.gov, the Automatic Tranny gets 17 City, and 21 Highway. The Manual gets 17, and 25. Reliability Wise, it all depends on how the previous owners treated it. Does the Seller have Maintenance Records that would indicate this? Overall, these cars are very reliable IF they are treated well. I have a 2.6, and I wouldn't say it is sluggish at all. If you want proof, I have 191,000 Miles, and still running strong. And 191,000 miles is nothing compared to other members on this forum.
I have an '89 that has 163k and it has a heck of a lot of power. It hiccups when I floor it, but that is something I have to find the reason for. It is very strong after that initial pause. Remember that these cars were, and still are often, the common French town's taxis.
