One clean '92 190e. Feeler post.

As much as I hate to do this, unforseen circumstances have me considering the sale of my 1992 190e 2.3. If you take the time to read on, you will realize what a rare car this is for New England, primarily due to it's pristine condition, lack of rust and it's rare manual transmission. Oh yes, did I mention, I purchased this less than two months ago from the original owner's son who meticulously maintained this car after his dad? On to the details.

Exterior
  • Original paint in amazing shape. Absolutely no rust.
  • 90% of it's life spent in garages
  • Well cared for with regular washing and waxing
  • Beautiful white paint with grey body cladding
  • As it was originally a California car, the windows have a medium tint all around

Interior
  • Camel colored interior in amazing shape, including carpets
  • Dash, instrument panels, console and all door cards near mint
  • Everything looks stock as it were from the factory, including Mercedes cup holders for doors
  • Only interior modification is Boston Accoustic speakers installed in the front dash - speakers not currently hooked up

Engine/mechanical
You name it, it's been replaced with factory OEM Mercedes parts. In sitting down with the original owner's son, it was clear this car had been more than babied. In the last two years alone, we tallied up almost $14,000 in receipts invested in this car as it was a daily driver for he and his wife for some time.
  • 162,700 original and painstakingly cared for miles
  • Complete rebuild of transmission linkage as well as complete clutch rebuild
  • Fuel pump and filter
  • New shocks all around
  • Parking brake, including all cables
  • Brakes pads
  • Radiator
  • Battery (yes, even this is the expensive, OEM Mercedes item)
  • A/C compressor and R134 conversion. A/C blows cold
  • Complete exhaust system including brand new catalytic convertor

This is just a sampling of the work done to the car. I have a 2 inch thick folder with every, and I mean every, receipt since new. This includes the orignal ad clipped from the paper in San Diego for the local dealership advertising this car and Mercedes European delivery program which this car was ordered and received through.

I bought this car for two reasons; 1) I've always wanted a 190 and 2) The owner was so detailed and meticulous in his records and care for this car, I knew I would kick myself if I did not jump on it. The owner had posted it and then headed out of town, only to come back to a list of over ten people wanting to come see it. I happened to get lucky and be first. The car is amazing and although I've never driven any other 190e, friends have told me this car drives exactly like the car did when brand new. It's a beautiful, smooth, solid luxury ride as it should be.

The crash of the real estate market did not work out well for me this tax season and unfortunately, I need to prioritize and sell this car. I'm not at all desperate and I know what this car is worth, so please, please don't waste either of our time with low ball offers. I will respond to any and all reasonable requests and questions about the car. Please bear with me though as I'm not on this forum every day.

Finally, the pictures. I think they speak for themselves. These are pictures the former owner took and still has posted so I'm hoping he does not mind me posting links to his pictures.

Please contact me directly with any questions about the car. To be clear, this is a feeler to see what type of interest there is in this car. It's entirely possible I'll come to my senses and keep the car.

Please email me at jroman@arn.com if you can't reach me through the forum.

Thanks for reading all this.

Well, yes. The only drawback for me is the color. Nice car, explained clearly. The fact that you have all of the receipts for the maintenance of this car is a strong selling point.
You don't mention timing chain or head gasket replacement, but I assume these issues have been addressed.

I am wondering though if all the listed maintenance of this vehicle HAD to be done, or if it was over-kill. A prudent buyer would ask for the VIN number before making an offer.

If the location of this car were close to Minnesota, I would definitely make an offer.
Good luck! You should be getting many offers.

Nice looking car. I am in NM so a light color is an advantage out here.
Where are you located? I saw a reference to new England. What is the price?

Mark

Thanks for the two comments here. Yes, the car is clean and well maintained. To answer the question - maintenance was done at recommended intervals or [i]sooner[i]due to a methodical owner. Timing chain and head gasket have not been done, but car does not leak or drip oil and shows no signs of smoke upon start up. It was inspected last month and passed with flying colors....and Ma has gotten much more stringent the last few years.

I will consider shipping or helping to deliver the car to any interested parties.

PS - white was not my first choice either, but it's an amazing color with the flat silver trim and tinted windows.

Anyone have any advice as to where else to post this car? Not getting a lot of interest here and I would like to put the car in front of someone that wants a car like this and will appreciate it's good condition.

beautiful car!

I like it - had an almost exact copy of yours for 4 years. Suggest to sell it on your local Craigslist, you will be surprised by the amount of replies you'll get. Hopefully the new owner will be looking after it as meticulously as yourself.

I was able to sell mine to a true Benz adept that already owned a 1995 E320. Knowing it was a W124, I almost got tempted to buy his car. He lives 100 yards from my place....

Thanks for the advice. Still for sale. I will be taking it to the Memorial Day races at Limerock and the European Car day at the Larz Anderson museum if anyone wants to see it in person.
