That is a perfect job.
Can I come to you to do mine ??
Of course you can But I hope this series of pictures should help you do it yourself. However if you show up this weekend I am about to mess with the blinker fluid system
Anyway, should I have another thread on installing and flushing the brakes? I will be doing that tomorrow after I finish the front bearing on the other side of course. Next will be the tower strut mounts that I just got from Germanstar, those babies are much much beefier than the crap from Febi that I got on eBay.
Other stuff I will be doing:
Door starps (I already did one for the rear passenger side and it was super easy)
Hood pad
Transmission flush and filter
Remove original radio and install my old JCV that was in the RX7 (I am also thinking of using the front door pockets as speaker housing, anyone done that?)
Let me know which of these you guys want pictures as I do it.
You're awesome!
One note though... I've read that it is VERY important to use a VERY SPECIFIC amount of grease. Apparently the amount that comes in the tube from MB is exactly the amount needed for 2 front wheel bearing sets. Either too little or too much is bad. I think you're supposed to weigh it.
What method did you use to set the torque on the outer retaining nut that has the allen bolt through it?
And lastly, did you ever change you front lower control arm bushings and/or ball joint?

Thanks again!!!!!
I am aware of the max/min amount of grease, that's why I used a spoon to split whatever I had in two because what was in the the container weighed just right for a set of two.
As to the torque, I used the old-timer method. I tightened all the way then backed off just enough to feel the wheel spin freely--no numbers
As far as the lower arm, I will be replacing the whole assembly in ONE shot since it comes with the ball joint and the bushings, no need to drill or press anything.
intense.....all very inspirational..... now to find a lift to pick up the engine so i can do my front engine mounts.....
I know what you mean, I have yet to install my engine mounts for my 560SEL's V8. I got all the parts but little inspiration but winter is gone and I feel energized so maybe I will do it before it gets too hot
Sure a brake flushing step by step would be a nice reference too.
Let me put it this way, I tried the old method of pumping the brake while monitoring the flow and I was not pleased with the process. Next I tried the power bleeder I have and after a nice spill I figured out the right pressure that the cap can handle: NO MORE THAN 10 PSI
I will redo the flush after I finish working on all four brakes and take pictures. Right now I am taking a brake, then go swing some gulf balls then I will go back to work on the car. Oh and clean the garage; what a mess!
