2.3-16 Trunk Ornaments

Parts arrived and are poised for installation when the 199 finish is on.

The trunk star is ready as are the three mounting dowels. These are the pieces that hold the trunk star firmly in place.

The badges are here. There is a fresh 190E and a 2.3 16. The little piece on the left is the dash.

The ornaments are resting on the box for the front grille.

The crew is working on the port side and there is much more to do this week.

2.3-16 Port Side Rough

Here is the initial port side roll out. It is nothing more than filling and sanding.

2.3-16 Hood Rough Sanding

Basically, the hood was nearly intact except for one dimple and surface scratches. Corrective filler reveals little deviation from original pressing. What is unclear is how is it that the hood paint cracked into a stained glass-like appearance: cracks, ruts and scratches. The sander wiped all this away revealing intact primer.

There is one supporting strip that has to be straightened out and welded back under the hood, and it is ready for fine preparation.

We are at a little before the halfway mark in this autobody restoration.

The glass will be removed and replaced , the roof will be treated and the trunk will be done. Rubber seals for the front and rear glass and sunroof, the back doors and the rubber window sill strips are inbound. Clips are inbound. Side skirts are being cleaned and prepped. Paint is on order.

2.3-16 Before/During

Here's the port front before and during restoration.

The streaks in the fender in the upper photo are the reflections of parked cars.
