Thursday a Day of Rest
Ordered new trunk badges from Helms Brothers. The 190E badge no longer comes in the pin attached variety. Now, it's the adhesive variety. The dash is available as a separate purchase. A new trunk star and mounting grommets will adorn the trunk lid.

Friday - Starboard Front Door
Today was the finishing up of straightening the rear starboard quarter panel with primer and the rolling out of the starboard front door's sheet metal. It was dinged heavily.
The starboard rear door was finished and reveals as thin a layer of putty/sealer on top of primer as possible. The paper mask shows the point where new paint will not go down below the cladding line.
The dings in the front door required a grinding down of nearly all previous paint and the application of primer and then putty/sealer. That sealer is thickly applied and drying. It will be sanded down to just barely a thin layer from the rear of the door toward the front.

Deen
I have known Deen since 2000. His work is excellent because he puts his heart into his work. He is so good with paint that he can make a pimped out ride in any color combination and pin striping wanted. He can also paint a car true to its original color. He takes wrecked late model Benzes and restores them for his customers. Paul at Helms Brothers knows of Deen's work.
As for the 16v, he will make the car appear as closely as possible to the original factory model. He did say and I did not stop him from saying that he would add perhaps a touch of Ferrari gloss by the sanding of intermediate coats as long as the 16v paint does not take on the appearance of a Ferrari finish.
He said that Speis Hecker will definitely look like a Mercedes from 1986 despite the fact that the original maker of the paint, Glasurit (not the BASF brand), is long out of business and Speis Hecker provides todays paint to Mercedes.

2.3-16 Body Panels
This shot from the starboard front demonstrates the effort at replicating the factory's straightness of body panels. Each panel has to be as straight and clean as possible and when all are put together, they all line up correctly.
The sealer/filler/primer combination is intended to match the thickness of primer material laid down at the factory. This will prevent the chips and nicks on door edges.

I may be a bit "thick" at times, but I honestly don't understand that statement. In all the prior photos, the doors and fenders appear to have been left on the chassis during the prep work and then during the primer coats. Were they previously removed?
With all the boat terminology I fully expect you to remove the driver’s seat and install a captain’s chair. Looks like your project is progressing well and we are looking forward to the final result.
