I thought the point of your thread was "restoring" this car not modifying it.

Might as well keep it, since people love to rip off aftermarket stuff these days anyways.

Throw away that old radio and get a new stereo and some new speakers :-D
it must have usb and mp3 off couse. Today my mother (55y.o.) took out the original mercedes radio and put in a cd/mp3/radio in her E300 diesel, i allmost destroyed the old radio to get it out, but it was ok.
You can keep the old radio and put it back when you sell maybe..

I can be a fanatic purist and keep the Becker 754 system original, or be flexible and enhance with an eye to the present,

However, the message here is to be totally pure. No problem. I will keep the entire music system 100% original.

Maybe you might look at the new Becker Grand Prix models. They play CD/mp3s, have Bluetooth capability and iPod control too. Best part is they look factory
Becker Grand Prix, Bluetooth, Becker Grand Prix 7990, Becker Grand Prix 7992, Becker Grand Prix 7993, Becker Grand Prix 7995, Becker CD with Bluetooth Telephone
