I am grateful for the comment about being passionate. I do the best I can.

It's the little metal badge from the car's original dealership.
It's the star and the word "prestige" on the car's old skin. I figured I'd have the car painted by "Prestige" autobody of Poughkeepsie but that changed right away.
NICE! I was going through the first few "pages" of this thread. I wish I could just get all this kind of restoration done to my 16v. It'll take me a longer span of time to do it. Very cool. Give a holler if you ever drive it into Maryland.

Oooops
A huge glitch overtook the car yesterday.
After a second alternator, I found the battery low on acid. The level was below the top of the plates in each cell. So, the car failed to start yesterday.
I added a half quart of distilled water so that the battery would hold a charge. I had Mercedes roadside assistance stop by to properly jump the car.
We're fixed.
This is an example of why I maintained my 8v all along and why it is still on the road.
Wouldn't it make sense that if there was a problem with the alternator, someone at Helms would check the acid level in the battery?
Wow! Many here use the word "stealership". I would use another word....

Details, Details
Using these days to tidy up the details.
The idea is for the car to look new.
Incidentally, the roadside assistant who jumped the car yesterday freaked out. He kept saying loudly that this was a new car. He kept asking whether we bought it and kept it unused in my garage since 1986. We assured him that was not the case.
