A Typical 2.3-16 Objective
When it will be done, one of the effects hoped to be achieved is a seemless integration between new paint and old paint.
In the top, warehouse condition version of the car, there is a seemless transition between paint hidden by body panels and paint exposed to the elements - such as the paint on the port rear quarter panel and the paint inside the door on the wheel well arch. When the car is completed, there will be the exact same seemless transition. The shop will blend the new paint into the old in such a way that it will be impossible to tell where the new paint ends and the old paint begins. This will preserve original factory paint in all the hidden areas throughout the car.
The second picture shows an example of a hidden area where factory paint will remain and blend into paint on the outside of the door. This photo correctly captures the luster and the depth of the original color still evident in these hidden areas throughout the car. The other photos are washed out by the camera's iris.
Door stops and their posts will all remain original. Clips, seals, pins and plastic washers will all remain in their original state. Those are my old rubber honeycombed floor mats.
The fourth picture shows the starboard roof line with a prominent key scratch on it. Just below that beam, the door's window frame will remain original. That paint will blend into new paint on the door sill panels. This preservation of the orignal factory paint will occur on each of the four door window frames.
The bottom picture shows one more example of a hidden area that will remain original and outside paint will blend into it as the paint curves with the metalwork and one layer disappears and another takes over.
There is one exterior area left that will be original. That will be discussed next.

Original Exterior Paint on the 2.3-16
This is the area where the original exterior factory finish will remain.
It is the rear license plate area bound by the trunk sill, the two tail lights and the bumper edge. Blended paint will take over at the line shown by the white boundaries along the lower panels that run under the rear tail lights.
If you go back to the previous pictures of the rear license plate area, you'll notice it is neither sanded nor primed. It has remained original and will survive the painting.
