Rear spoiler again

Judging by the reflection on your spoiler, the surface is no longer flat. Are you going get it replaced / repaired? Once fixed can you post the 'before & after' pics? Thx a lot.

The surface of the spoiler has micro-ripples on its surface because it is not made of a solid material as I thought it was, but rather it is made of a soft plastic covered in a very flexible paint.

Whatever happens to it, I'll be glad to post before/after photos.

2.3-16 Brake Rotors

Here is the verdict on the rotors.

The 22 year span of the contact between the factory rotors and the factory pads caused both to fuse in a rusted clump.

The results are rotors with ruts. All four are now replaced and the brakes work smoothly and quickly. There is new brake fluid as well.

It appears that the rotors in the rear were chipping and grinding at their pads which resulted in a chirping sound: as if the rear suspension was creeking.

Replacing the rotors and pads eliminated that sound.

The cooling system hardward Dorgler says are in proper operating condition and there is no need to change the alternator.

Paint possibly Friday.

Road trials.

It seems the car acts as if it is completely ready to resume ordinary driving on any terrain in any weather conditions. The temperature gauge likes to sweep between roughly 85c and 100c. Moving forward rather quickly drops the temperature back to 85c and waiting in stopped traffic rather quickly raises the temperature to 100c.

This rather quick rise and fall is markedly different from the 8v. The 8v sweeps very, very slowly up and down.

There are times when the motor revs to 900rpm and then it goes to roughly 800rpm. Acceleration is never rumbly; instead, it is snappy and light.

Yes, it is. The wing profile is not flat.

When driving the 16 valve, keep in mind that "life begins" at around 4K rpm.

wheels

I think your car is gonna look so hot with EVOII wheels painted gun metal / titanium. Shiny black paint with matte gun metal rims is definitely one of a kind...yet it is still original like you wanted.

Maybe in the future I'll get my hands on an EVO car, but for now, bodywork begins.

Prestige is canceled.

I went back to my traditional shop for the 199 paint.

Body Restoration of the 8,000 mile 190E 2.3-16

Body restoration began today with a strip of the car.

The rear was stripped of its parts. The rear badging was removed by allowing the heat of the sun to loosen the badge adhesive/tape.

Interior trim is being removed so as to protect it from the paint booth environment. The plan is to seal off all interior surfaces to avoid spray residue.

You can see the new 70 litre fuel tank mounted in the trunk.

Parts are being safeguarded and will be cleaned for reinstallation.

Speis Hecker code 199 is being ordered today. One gallon for precoats and one gallon for top coats. Wet sanding and foam wheel polishing is the restoration method: to simulate factory original appearance. A parts inventory will take place and appropriate part orders will occur at Helms Brothers.

Currently, the original hood is planned for restoration, not a replacement hood I bought two months ago.
