mine had the aroma of cigarette when I got it yuk
right now it smells like vanilla double yuk. I wanted sea brease but wifey insisted that vanilla will kill the cig smell over time then she will allow me to use sea brease.
Luckily the previous owner AKA my Dad's old boss and his wife never smoked, they owned it from 1987.

It really is coming along.
The port side door sill plates are now clean and shined. The factory tight look of the sills appears on both sides of the 16v.
The port front hinge is clean and waxed. The clutch pedal still needs to be restored and you'll remember the honeycombed floor mats I had from the barolorot 190.
The door stop mounting lug on the starboard rear door is cleaned and shined. The white plastic spacer is mint and the locking pin looks like it has never been touched.
The starboard rear door locking mechanism is clean again. A rust colored grease is deliberately added to the slider plate to lubricate it well.
Minor errors will be finished off after body and paint.

Appeal!
The Becker Grand Prix 754 stereo is so anemic!
I'll need to file an appeal on that 100% purist approach.
The barolo 190 is thunderous and blauschwartz is like a transistorized 1980's radio.
Can I put a two kilowatt amp in the trunk and a bass box contoured to sit on top of the spare tire to boost the Grand Prix? Look at the size of that tiny little speaker cover back there. OMG.

I do have the same feelings with my Becker! It works fine but if you want better sound ( as I do), I recommend installing whatever you want on it, but keeping the original components so you can return the car to original state when you want to. This really means using harness adapters for the head unit, because new wires for speakers and new speakers can always stay. After all, it is your car and you are free to do what is necessary to really enjoy driving it.

Sure I am the current owner but I feel a duty to preserve historic artifacts too. To that end everyone has spoken that this 16v should stay true to the factory model.
But it sucks to go from barolo wine having listened to Wagner's Die Walküre on an ipod to cast iron listening to Walter Cronkite on a Magnavox.

2.3L 8 valves need stereos, 2.3-16 twincams make their own music.
...
The 16v puts out quite a racket. The clatter is noisy and the car is way more mechanical in feel and sound than the 8v.
He..he.. make it give you Barolo (ever had Paolo Conterno Barolo Ginestra?) and Wagner, and then if necessary, throw chardonnay back at it.
...
Paolo Conterno is a famous vintner who makes a barolo wine. Mercedes Benz makes barolo colored cars like my GL450 and my 8v.
Here is a before/after of the port side front wheel. The skirt needs work as does the fender. The pinstripe really ruins the continuity of the appearance.
Great work and excellent thread. Now did you buy the car to sit in and listen to the stereo? I agree with MTI the music you hear should be from under the hood and out the exhaust.
