The Haynes manual is adequate. The MB Service manuals are available in paper or CD. You'd need the M102 engine manual and the W201 Chassis and Body manual, along with the separate manuals for the transmission, climate control and electrical system . . . or you can download the PDF files that are online.
Thanks for all the help. What weight oil should i use with the car? I am assuming not synthetic because of the age of the car.

Why should i swap the motor out. If you are suggesting that i do so for more power i am not really concerned about that. Or is the motor in the 84 not quality? I just want a solid daily driver

mehh iunno about the 84s its a different world..i tested one a while back and the thing feels underpowered and nothing like the 85 or a 93. the engine looks complicated to work on with the v belts instead of the serp belt

pre 85 had v belts. 85 and 86 had single chain timing chain and serp belts and vac adjust distro. the 87 on had serp belts and rpm sensor on the flywheel, some had dual chain timing chains. theres alot of differences on the motors
