w210 diff into w201

I'm planning an awesome diesel conversion on my rather nice w201. The plan is to get myself a rotting w210 turbo diesel and swap the engine (fitting an OM603 manual IP if I can't get the electronically controlled inline pump on the OM606 engine to work), auto box and diff into the w201.

That is if the diff uses the same mounts...

Does anyone know the score on this? I'm a skilled fabricator so can make up adapter rings and other bits if required, I was just wondering if they will actually fit into the same space in the rear cross member or are they 'totally' different?

Anyone able to help?

Cheers all...

Hugh, Wet and windy UK...

You might want to check out some W124 diffs, as per my knowledge the W210 ones mount a bit differently. Although.....as far as I remember reading, those W210 diffs were far from flawless (whining, a lot of whining). What year is the donor car?

I haven't got the donor car yet, it's most likely to be a 96-97-98 I would have thought. Most of those over here have rotten wings/other bits and go for reasonable money on 'the bay'.

Is the w124 E class more parts compatible with the w201? I could always get a om603 engined w124 and use that as the donor then upgrade to a 24v engine later.

Yes, definitely more compatible. There were a couple guys in Finland that converted their 190's to smaller size 300D Turbos with 400 BHP. I'll look for the link.
