its worse with an auto box, between 1st and 2nd, you get major wheel spin, so at like 3k rpm, you need to tap the accelerator and it shifts down.

Not a bad idea. I rarely get snow where I live but I travel north quite a bit in the winter to ski. That's why I'm looking for a beater.
The SAAB has 235/40/17 Z rated tires that I'm sure won't be good in slush, the 190 has All season 16s that will do fine with a small amount of snow, the 16V won't see the the light of day 'till the spring and it's a good excuse to add another car to the fold.
