Hi- I just picked up a 1991 190e 2.6. Can anyone recommend a good book for the car? I ordered the cd-roms off ebay for my W126 and they're pretty lack luster. Hows this book:
I need to fix the brakes, and fix random do-dads like the back door doesn't open from outside, the back window doesn't open... suspension needs refurb... I'm sure the list will grow as I have more time to go over the car.
Which are the good CD's? The ones I got off ebay for ~$20 are pretty much crap. I have a Bentley for my VW that's like 3" thick and it taught me everything I know about VW's, I'm hoping to find a similar book for Merc's.
It is true the ones off ebay are pretty much crap. Most of them are just copies of the orginal service cds you can buy at the dealership for like $40 or $50 more. The service literature for these cars are quite crap in general since they(Mercedes) want you to go take your car to the dealership and have the techincians fix it for you. All part of the plan. If you can afford to buy one then you can afford to have it serviced by the techincians, people who I have mixed feelings about. Some have been complete, stuck up idiots and some been very nice, knowledgable.
I do know for a fact that there is a haynes manual avaible for your car, but not in the US in autopart stores, at least Ive never seen it. You can buy it online at amazon
The forums can be helpful at times but alot of the times it will point you in the wrong direction. For example for my stalling problem which I finally solved with some creativity, looking at the documents and figuring out how all the systems work together in the car. Many people have suggested many things that HAVENT solved the problem. I replaced the mas,ovp and sensors that many people suggested caused the problem and in fact IT DiDNT solve the problem. So in short the forums can send on you a wild goose chase.
Hi, I'm new to forums in general so please bear with me. I am considering buying a 1991 MB 190E 2.3L with 250,000kms on it. It's got a clean body and interior and everything seems to be working fine on it. Is there anything that I need to look out for in this particular model that might be a problem for me at around the 250K mark? And the asking price is $4,000; wondering if that's too much. Thanks

Are you in Canada? Read the "kms" instead of miles.... just make sure it has a complete service history. 4,000 Canadian $ is not bad at all. At this mileage (155,000 miles) it's time for a larger check-up. Also make sure this has been done (My 2.3 had one exactly one year ago... no big deal).
