The 4K tranny... It's pretty close to the 2H from the MK1 NAM GTI.
I remember reading (and I still have the article from VW&Porsche) about the 020 transmission from 84-90 that had the self machining problem. I'm sure most were fixed or failed by now.
They switched to the 02A in the Corrado and B3 Passat (I think) and then for all with the MK3. Put a N/A MK2 diesel tranny in... It will sing like a B-52 in 5th gear.
I think every 020 will eventually get a bad 2nd gear syncro. My last diesel had that notorious grind in 2nd when it was cold if you didn't hold the cluth in for 2 seconds when cnanging gears. I solved that problem (band-aid fix that actually worked) by putting GM spec Corvette gear oil in...? Go figure?
If you haven't already swap the connecting rod for the shift linkage with the weighted MK3 rod. Night and day.
citroens arent bad looking cars, but they are weak as hell, my dads friend had a new one in china and that thing overheated going up a mountain....

I need a benz bad........
im pretty sure i have the 4k tranny, driving 80 mph on 280 that thing was so annoying lol, i thought i could handle it but i think ill just drive 70 next time haha. i heard that the deisel tranny was alot better in gearing, but i like the quickness of the 4k. what do you mean by the N/A mk2 diesel tranny will sing in 5th gear? lol. the weighted rod i gotta find somewhere, i think there is on at the JY, so ill grab that for it. right now im redoing most of the bushings on the whole shifting assembley, took the brakects off and all, put in new bushings in the accual shifter and all the ones that lead up the the linkages.

Here's a link with gear ratios: Gear Up!

I second that - literally every Mk2 I drove (except for the one my brother had, sadly it got totalled ten years ago) had the annoying grind. I decided to stay with the looong ratios... VeeDubs 1.8 and 2.0 engines are quite torquey, and with the power upgrades I had on that Mk2 in the pic, it was more than capable of swift acceleration.... mannn I miss that roar and the burble of the front to back Sebring exhaust
im having a fellow dubber help me out with the timing belt today b.c i cant seem to loosen the one bolt on the crank to get it off lol. i took pics but i need to upload them and then put them on here.
yes Hamada - let's do that. Just picked up a gallon of antifreeze at the stealer and took the chance to sit down in a Maybach 57s (the manager was nice enough to unlock it for me) and a CL 63 AMG...quite a humbling experience to go back to my own old Benzo...
