Mercedes states that the 2.6L engine consumes about 1 Liter of oil per 1000 Km's.

Then that's normal consumption... Does it say that in the owners manual? The lights coming on has got to be a fluke.

yeah, that's what my mechanic say too. the 2.6L Burns a bit of oil, and its not the case for the other w201 models.

A lot of cars burn oil on high speed runs. I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you check your level after and carry a spare quart of oil with a high second number. I keep an old bottle of 20W50 in car.

Probably, the lights that are comming on are caused by an alternator on his way out. Check the voltage when this happens.

Alternator is about 1 yera old. Brand new (not remanufactured) Bosch unit... paid a mint for it. Deff not the alt. It's puting out 14 amps.
