I think I have to rewire the central locking system, as it is blowing the fuse with the pump connectors disconnected. This means that there is a short to ground somewhere in the circuit. However, I am not sure how the system power works and the manual is not too helpful.
Does anyone know the vacuum pump pin IDs? There is a square connector with 2 heavier gauge wires going to it....red and brown. Are these the power/ground to run the pump?
The round connector has 3 pins, 2 of them green and one brown (if I remember correctly). What are these?
I'm having trouble with my central locking system as well. Trying to find wiring info is not easy. My Haynes manual doesn't show anything regarding the vacuum pump wiring. I can't detect any power on any of the wires on the pump connectors and the fuse in the main box is good. I'd like to bench test the pump but not sure where to connect the power. I assume power goes to the red/brown wires. Question is how to activate the pump with the other connector (green/yellow wires).
Just a thought for you: the fuse is shared for the vacuum pump. Are you sure that its the wiring to the pump that is causing the short/overload? I can't remember right now which are the other devices on that fuse. I think they might be the rear interior lights...
Yes, the rear dome lights. If you take a close look at the wiring diagram, you will see that the power is split in the central locking system as well; goes to the pump via the red wire on the rectangular connector. It also goes to the 2 front door vacuum elements as well as the trunk vacuum elements. These elements send control signals to the pump via the wires in the round connector. I believe the 2 green ones are the control wires, but I have not had the time to examine the diagram closely enough.
First I have to disconnect the 3 vacuum actuators to determine where the short is. However, I need to either rewire or replace the harness, as part of my harness is nicely melted into a hard ball inside the wiring conduit. The previous owner must have done a bit of rewiring (he is an electrician) as there is some house wire in that conduit....guess where it is going? To the RH door element!
I think it will save me a lot of headache if I just rewire the system.
Good luck.
