I want to add an Aftermarket radio to my car but I don't know how...

Hey whatsup?

I don't need instructions on how to install, I just wanted to know how its done. Do I need a wiring harness or something?
I have a Sony CDX-C5000X CD Player and I removed the stock MB stereo and the back looks NOTHING like the one from the Sony's except the power connector. I wanted to know if I needed a wiring harness or special wires.
They dont have any kits for my car at Fry's or Best Buy (www.outpost.com www.bestbuy.com).
I was wondering how some of you guys have done it or are doing it. I only have speakers but I need new wiring for the right side because I hear nothing from the speakers.

-Thanks a lot!
Dami3n.

Alright here is how it goes. You need the harness that is Model Specific to that Sony HU. so if you got the head unit and none of the connectors that go to the back of it, you need to get one.

This harness if for a JEEP but is used strictly for visual purposes. You need the one that fits the back of your HU.

Okay, now that you have the harness for your headunit you need to splice the wires from the harness to the wires that come out of your car. You will need some wire cutters/strippers and some crimp ends and a crimper. usually all those come in one tool. Now the MB colors will NOT match the ones on your Headunit for a color diagram i suggest you ask or if you want i can pull my HU and take a picture for you. Everything else is pretty much fair game. For your speaker you may not need new wires but its always fun to replace them but check all connections and make sure they ARE in fact connected.

Where can I pick one of these harness' up? I think the HU has one but the end wires are like ripped and electrically taped. This HU was in my mom's minivan a year ago and she got a new one so it sat in my dad's work for ages. Some employee broke into it and broke the whole dashboard to get the HU. Someone told my dad and he got the HU back. Ill take a pic.

Thanks a lot you've been a great help in the past threads.

Take Some Pictures And I'll Tell You Whats Going On When I See It. If the wires are ripped thats fine as long as the wires are still there. Some people go with Electrical tape to connect the wires but since the cars do get hot back there and in the sun the electrical tape becomes a pain in the ass. The connectors are cheap as hell from any hardware store or radio shack. So why not right? Plus they are better anyway.

The harness that connects to the stereo, this was used in a 1995 Chevrolet.

That is the back of the HU.

Alright you got the harness thats great. Thats the Sony Specific harness not a Chevy harness so that can be spliced up to the wires that come from your 190 by means of the directions i posted above. Also it seems that you have a great amount, so rip off that electrical tape, clean or cut the wires so you can get new looking wires exposed and crimp them together.

Wow.... Kynyption you really help! You dont know how much I appreciate this.

On the harness, these are the colors
-White/Black
-Green/Black
-Grey/Black
-Purple/Black
-Purple
-White
-Green
-Grey
-Black
-Red
-Yellow
-Blue
-Blue/White

For some unknown reason to me, the red and yellow cables are twisted together.
