2.3L 4cyl. piston location...

Ok I know the firing order is 1342.

My question is the #1 cylinder on the front of the engine (towards the grill) or the rear? Thanks.

In the front, towards the grille. Almost all in-line engines are labeled starting with the front (or first) cylinder being #1. Unless you're working on an older piston-driven prop plane.

Ok thanks.

It's just weird because the spark plug wire holder says "1342" but the way its arranged it appears that #1 is towards the firewall.

I see. Also, the distributor cap should have an indicator, or a "#1" marked on it for the first cylinder. you could pop off the cap and rotate the engine until the rotor is pointing towards said indicator, then trace that wire to the spark plug. That's #1.
