Question How do I test...

How do I test to see whether or not the pressure and all that is right w/ the compressor...It clicks on and off randomly, but when it goes off, I have to shut off the car and restart it.. IF ANYONE can help me do this...Please give me some directions on what I should test and with what? Thanks, Mike

Do you have a gauge set? At 80 degrees ambient temp., the static pressure of the a/c system should be about 86psi for R134A and around 80 for R12. With the system running, at 80 deg ambient temp, you should get 26-36 psi on the low side and 150-260 psi on the high side. If the humidity is high the pressures will tend to be on the higher side. Also, these are for R134A; the high side pressure of R12 systems will be slightly lower. Good luck.
