Can an engine from a 190e 2.6 work in a 2.3 190E

Hi. I have a 1988 V4, Automatic, 190E and the engine is complete shot. There is a guy selling an engine from a 1990 190E, 2.6 V6 mercedes with only 90,000 miles on it.

Question. Will the engine fit and work in my car or will my mechanic have to do something really fancy to get this to work or is it just a straight swap pretty much. I cant ask my meachanic as he is out oif the country but I would like to buy the engine so he can put it in when he comes bk.

Will all the lines etc work from the 1990 car in mine. any additional engine parts that I should grab so they wold work in mine? Please advise. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read and respond.

Regards,

Wes

I don't know if the transmission is the same or not on the 6cly vs the 4 cly. One thing I can think of that will change is the electronics. You will need the EZL, ECU and maybe a 6 cyl wire harness. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

The problem is the electronics. As said above you will need the ECU, the EZL but also the Fuel pump relay, basically nearly everything behind the plastic panel behind the battery and their harnesses. And those are some expensive parts

You can ignore the EZL and ECU and get yourself an aftermarket ignition unit to run the engine I have heard of people doing that.

Cool

In my case, when my 1985 2.3 8V engine blew up last year, I wanted to swap with a 2.6. Everyone recommanded me to swicth with another 2.3 8V or change my 190E to another 190E that already have a 2.6

I found a very good 1990 2.3 8V engine for $1200 cdn. Cost me overall $2000 cdn. Since a year, I had no problem at all. Also I gained 10 HP and it have a double timing chain!

You should do the same. Instead, if you really want to have a 2.6, I suggest you to start looking for a 190E 2.6 in good condition.

Cheers,

Uncle Benz
