ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM with the abs on low speeds judder on the pedal until u drive over 20 miles an hour then the ABS light comes on and stays on. BRAKES still work on default mode as usual.
the light and the judder are a no no on the mot test.
WHAT I DID___________________
removed the ABS cables from the front wheels on either SIDE.they are under the hood on either side' by the fuse box and the battery (black connectors)
THEN WENT FOR A DRIVE AND THE ABS LIGHT WAS COMING ON WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE BRAKE AND EVEN ON LOW SPEED THERE WAS NO JUDDER ON THE PEDDLE
NEXT_________________
REMOVED THE BULB A BIT TRICKY UNDER THE STEERING but with a bit of determination did it now i,m bracing myself for the test tomorrow.
Good luck! But be prepaired, my 500SEL failed on ABS light not showing correct sequence ie did not come on with ignition. To be honest it was unusual for them to spot it. You could have removed the ABS bulb and put the washer level warning bulb in the abs hole. Therefore miraculuosly has the correct sequence. [:D]
advised on diff oil leak,
front brake pipes to be changed soon.
and a very good bill of health from the tester .he said the car is in very good condition absolutely no rust and the "emissions are very good"
could not believe it.
failed on rear tyre, it has a cut on the wall ,so i need to buy a tyre tomorrow as it will be a free retest.
The cleaning of the ABS sensors may work. If it doesn't the next thing you have to do is check the resistance at the connector using a multimeter. While you have it hooked up you have to twist or pull the abs wires to see if the resistance changes. That will be your bad sensor wire.
Congrats on your MOT. I was lucky with the 500 as it had blown the bulb for the warning light, that was the least of it's problems but that's another story. I'd also agree with the other posts to clean sensors. If you do find yourself tugging the sensor looms to find a broken wire you can almost pinpoint the break slice the cable and repair. It's a free repair (that we all like) and you wont have the grief of trying to remove the sensor either. Like you say though a job for the warmer weather.
Perday - I replied to your message. It is probably 100% that the sensors and rings need a very good clean. I had overactive ABS below about 5mph and cleaned front 2 sensors / rings and all is well. That was thanks to Spanner's posts after I diid a search about ABS.
