When I bought this car a couple of weeks ago the AFM was rigged open. I replaced the AFM with a used unit with no luck. I've since replaced the fuel distributer, and idle valve (both had been beaten on by the previous owner) with used units. I also put in a used coolant temp sensor. The fuel pressure regulator looks to have been recently replace with a new unit. If i disconnect the fuel line and turn the igition on, fuel pumps into a catch can at a decent rate, but I have no way of checking the pressure. The vehicle has a half tank of gas. I've removed and cleaned all of the injectores with compressed air.
If I poor fuel into the AFM/throttlebody, the car will fire up, and idle well until the supplimental fuel runs out. Sometimes I can keep it running by massaging the pedal, but it runs like crap.
any suggestions would be appreciated!
I would also sell the car if anyone wants it. It's in Indianapolis. check the classified on this site.
Where did you check fuel delivery? I think maybe it's worth trying disconnecting fuel lines from your checkpoint along the line to the injectors. This should at least show up where the fuel flow is being resricted.
I got it running! The only problem is that I'm not 100% sure how.
1. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer. (I had installed the new components mentioned above without doing this.)
2. I switched AFM's one last time
3. I checked my idle valve connections again.
4. The used fuel distributor that I bought smelled like varnish, like it had been sitting for some time, so I blew it out with compressed air.
Can anyone eliminate one or more of these items from being the solution? My main goal is to re-sell one or more of my spare AFM's, but want to make sure that they are not problematic. I guess I could re-install each of them to check them, but it seems like there would be a better way to tell.
Also, the car idles extremely high, around 2000-2400 RPM's. Any suggestions?
no, not directly, but the different AFM could have been set differently. I never touched the settings. The latest AFM has what appears to be a screw broken off in the top of the rich/lean adjust shaft. I could probably get it out w/ either a dremel or drill if necessary.
