Ok, check it out. I installed a new battery today and started her up. After about 20min. I couldn't start the car again. It just cranked, cranked & nothing? Also, it back-fired a couple of times.
In another post someone talked about "vapour lock". I know my OVP, fuel relay, and ignition is ok, but I'm having doubts about the fuel accumulator?
Does anybody know what's going on ????
Fuel accumulator?????????????????
Trying a bit of crystal ball type arm chair diagnosis here. (probably really embarass myself and get it completely wrong though so here goes.
I reckon you have a 2.6. It was a very common problem with these. It would start fine, run lovely and after almost exactly 20 mins would stall and not restart until it cooled down. These is down to the distibutor cap and rotor arm breaking down when hot. Replace it and it will be fine.
So there you go. I'm either a genius or an idiot. Still worth bearing in mind unless you have a diesel of course.
You know what Dan57 ?
Your not an idiot. Your thinking is in the same track as mine. The dist.cap & rotor haven't been
replaced. I should replace them, but I think I'll have the same problem with the vapour lock. Lots of people are telling me it's the accumulator? I see myself replacing all three items in the long run!
Thanks......................
I have replaced loads of dist caps and rotors for this problem on all M103 engines. It can really catch you out.
I must admit though I have never changed a fuel accumulator. I'm always willing to learn though.
Good luck.
