when i bought my car i had some coolant leak .. later found it was not only the upper raditor hose but the heater core..
so as a cheap fix i replaced the upper raditor hose and bypassed the heater core.
later found the coolant resovoir cap was not right so changed that too....
it ran good for like 3 weeks and now suddenly i see coolnat leaks .....it doesn't drip bad but a small pool is foremed in 4 hrs if parked but then it stops ... i guess the pressure makes it leak...
there is no leaks on the radiator - have cheaked that but i see some steam if the car is heated ...from the top part of the engine ...towards the body ...
i donot know how to explian the place but i will try and explain it you face the engine you will see after the 6 spark plugs there is a wire with some kind of sensor(3 inch long) attacted to the uppper engine on the back side...
i wish i had a picture to show that part but i think you can understand once you see your own car's engine..
i was wondering what is that called and can it be replaced on my own...
also just as a check point what all other places should i check for a coolnat leak ..
The usual suspects for coolant leaks are the auxillary pump and the water pump. Since you bypassed the heater core, that should be dry, but did you also seal off the return line from the heater core? On the 2.6L there is also the overflow tank hidden in the right fender well.
i had it done from a mechanic who has been working on my car for some time now.. so i don't know ... i have two open pipes (coming from the dash bors area) - i guess one is flow in and one is flow out pipe of the heater core...
Also when u see the leak it seems to coming from underneath the middle portion of the engine..

That looks to be the engine temp sensor for the fuel injection computer, if it's the last one on the block. There are 3 sensors in that part of the engine, from the closest to the fan to the back, they are:
Auxillary fan switch sensor
Temperature sensor for the dash coolant temp gauge
Engine temperature sensor for the CIS system
Linear Mode
