Where do you get your Air filters (and oil, and fuel)?
None of the local shops (not many of them, either) stock them==3 day order time. For that much delay, I might as well order on line (and get it cheaper, or a better product for the same money).
RE: Where do you get your Air filters (and oil, and fuel)?
I use a K&N for the air filter, my oil filters/PS filters come from the stealership (cheaper then anywhere else), the oils I use is Mobil 1 15w50 in the summer, Castrol Syntec 0w50 in the winter and it comes from who ever has the big jugs the cheapest. And fuel is a moot point since we live in different parts.
As you replied to my Cone Filter question (the Cone filter was more as a substitute for a paper filter than for performance), and you use K&N, I am wondering how you like them? I do have one in my Ford Explorer--I like it not because it added any performance, but it is one less thing I need to replace--just clean and re-install. The BMW 318is had one in it when I bought it (factory replacement filter), so I cannot tell about any performance increase.
I did have a 1987 325e about a year ago. I did buy a cone filter for it--really didn't do much for performance (not noticeably)--the chip I put in did much better. However, again, the cone filter was easy to pull and clean, and less hassles looking for a filter to fit (although, admittedly, in Chicago, there wasn't much trouble finding filters like I am having now out here in Rural PA).

I am using a OEM size K&N and like it a lot. Maintenance is just one small part. Go and figure out the actual free area on the cone and then figure out the same area for the stock, that in it self should answer any question you have about that issue[8D]
RE: Where do you get your Air filters (and oil, and fuel)?
"Car Quest" stocks not only routine maintenance items, but through a recent aquisiton they also have a foreign car group that stocks relativley hard to find parts too....suspension(bushing kits, control arms, etc. etc.) stuff for my 190E 2.3-16 for example, as well as window motors, ww motor, blower control relay/switch....and their prices were comparable as the best I found on the net....at say "The Benz Bin" or "AutohausAZ", Adsit parts etc.
I was able to order "Brembo" and "Zimmerman" brake rotors and they had the same selection of pad choices as well.
Their delivery on the more exotic stuff was "next business day"...Filters were in stock at my store.
