I have a 86 RHD 2.3 16v, can someone tell me if the fuel filter is located on the right or left side. Recently there is a really strong smell of petrol on the left back passenger side of the car, I was just wandering if its related to the fuel filter. Also the car performance has dropped a fair bit. When I step on the throttle, it rev like mad but takes a while for the car to get going. Also in the morning it takes about 10 cranks to start the engine and druing the day, it takes even longer. I am not a car expert so I have no idea whats going on. I would like to know the likely problems, so when i go to a mechanic, at least I know the problems are kinda related and hopefully I won't get rip off.
The fuel filter is located towards the rear of the car(underneath). Im not sure if its located on the left or right side since your car is a RHD car. You have to remove a cover to see the fuel filter. Its pretty easy to find.
You'll find a rubber flap just inside the rear passenger wheel. Its under there. If you can smell fuel and you have to crank the engine so many times that clearly says FUEL LEAK! One of the unions from the pump is loose I'd say.
