1992 Sportline suspension prob

Howdy. Newbie here. I have a '92 190E Sportline with aftermarket AMG-style 16" rims on Pirelli rubber. There are 144,000 miles on her. I believe the suspension is pretty much shot-- much clanging, jarring, jolting, and lots of bottoming out. The tires will hit the fender wall with any sort of jolt or road irregularity. My problem is I've had a whale of a hard time finding anyone who knows anything about MB Sportline suspension. And I know nothing myself. I assume the springs are shorter than the regular 190E, and the shocks/struts must be too. My question is, how would I best remedy my suspension problem? Bilstein makes a strut they call "sport" (B36-1470). Is this what I need? Think I need new springs too? Would this keep the tires from hitting the wheel well? It seems to be mostly a front-end problem. Any advice you could offer would be met with extreme gratitude, as I've not met anyone yet who could give me an answer to my problem.
Thanks,
Loxjet

RE: 1992 Sportline suspension prob

The Sportline springs lower the car approximately 1/2" compared to the OEM stock setup. The front coils are the same part as the 2.3-16 uses and the rear coils are specific to the Sportline. Given the modest amount of lowering, you're not going to need Sport struts or shocks, just the Bilstein HD units. If you changed to aftermarket lowering springs, like those from Koni, Eibach, H&R, etc., then Sports would be appropriate.
