Hello everyone. There is a 91 190E 2.6 for sale here in my area. Its smoked silver, clean inside out, no rust at all, has 142 K on it. Overall its looks really clean and runs great. The only problem is that its eating a little oil. The owner says they have to put some oil in it in between every oil change. The party was initially asking more than $3000 for it and has agreed to give it for $3000. My question is that does it look like a good deal or no? What could be the caus of oil eating and how serious this problem is. There is no oil leak in the engine by the way. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
Did they say a quart in how many miles? Does the antifreeze in the expansion tank look ok (not oily). Is the trans fluid red and not brown muck? Maintaince records? If the body is nice and the interior is nice, then if you have to throw money at it, at least you'll still have a nice car.
Check strut assembly (shocks front n rear), strut mounts, rotors, ac?, overheating?, aux fans. Basically you can look for anything that might help you buy the car cheaper. If the car needs some new parts, calculate the costs and weigh that against the asking price. Then maybe you can get the guy to bring it down more. Most imporantly do like the feel of the car on the road?

Thanx Ignatz and mykg4orce for the reply. I will ask the owner about the amount of oil it eats.I just wanted to ask does that means its engine is getting weaker? How big this issue is? Otherwise i checked the strut mounts, they looked fine to me, i test drove the car and it felt good, shocks seemed good and the engine power seemed fine to me.No vibrations, no noises inside the car, overall i had a very good experience of driving it.The only thing bothering me is the oil issue.
Most old cars eat a little bit of oil. And most of the time its not a big deal, overtime seals wear out and let oil into the engine where it is burned.
Thanx mykg4orce for the info. I asked the owner today and he says it takes about 1 quat every 3000 miles. So do u think if i could buy the car for $2700 or 2800, is it going to be a good deal? I test drove the car again today and it was a very good experience.
