Upon taking my engine apart and mixing pieces from the new engine i got and the old one I noticed that on the new engine (a 1992 2.3 or so Im told) there was a funky intake manifold gasket that had a single pin connector on it. It's an entire gasket made out of plastic that has a pin for something to plug into it. When i went to check out this part in the parts catalog all I see is the normal gasket for sale thats about $7. I dont see any info on this 1/4 inch thick plastic one. Anyone have any info? Should i leave this on the new motor even if i dont have the plugin on the old harness?
Someone has to know what I am talking about. Do I need this gasket or not? If i dont need it then i will just get a normal gasket and not put this plastic electronic one on.
Do you mean its on the intake manafold to head surface?
I don't know exactly not owning a standard 2.3 but it sounds like those (gasket style pre heaters) that I have seen on some domestic models and they are usualy between the intake manafold and carb.
What I would say is if your old setup never had it you wont have anything to plug into it so even if its an updated part for the newer models it wouldn't do you any good anyway. so a gasket is cheeper and less likely to leek in the long run so I wouldn't put it in.
Hopefully someone that knows for sure will post and make it an easer dicission for you.
Yes... the "preheater" I have goes in between the intake manifold and the head. If i could just use a gasket i would imagine that it would seal better but I am not sure either. If anyone knows for sure please lemme know.
