Flex Disk Replacement

Help,,,,I had the front flex disk go out in my 86 190E, my local mechanic replaced the disk, now I have a vibration going about 35-45mph. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go back and read the replies to your 12/11/04 post. "theairboy" mentioned that the two piece drive shaft must be put back in the same position so it doesn't go out of balance. That could result in your car having a vibration.

I replaced the front flex disk on my '93 190E about a year ago and everything went smooth and I did not have to remove the drive shaft. It sounds like something wasn't reconnected properly. It's hard to tell without raising the car to inspect. Did you take the car back to your mechanic to have him re-check his work? I would do that first and ask him exactly what components he removed from your car to replace the front flex disk.

Good Luck and keep us posted on the outcome.

RE: Flex Disk Replacement

I appreciate the info. I am betting he removed the shaft, and did not replace as removed. What does it take to have the shaft balanced??

RE: Flex Disk Replacement

I should not cost to much to get it balanced, but the problem is its hard to find anyone that can do it. At least where i live. I had to goto drive line services of portland, since they where the only ones that had a clue.

RE: Flex Disk Replacement

Go back to your mechanic and have it checked... you shouldn't have to pay anything.

I just acquired a '91 190e. It runs smoothly until 45 then has some fairly violent shaking. At 60, it is a dull roar coming from the rear. My first analysis was a U-joint but I am gathering that the car must not have a u-joint but a flex disk. Would this behavior indicate a flex disk problem? any ideas?

Center support bearing

Check the center support bearing. It's rubber and probably shows wearing out around the same time as the flex discs. I replaced a driveshaft on my '86 190E with a junker that I had discs put on and I have no vibration or rumble. I might be lucky though.
My wife's '91 190E has a center bearing going out and it rumbles a bit between 40 and 60 mph on acceleration and then ceases to rumble on cruise.
