Oil and Water disappearing

My 190E is eating oil, and water is disappearing. I keep having to put more in, it hasnt been over heating and isnt leaking anything on the ground.

I think i was told that the valve seals may need replacing? Does this sound right?

RE: Oil and Water disappearing

Worn valve seals are common and could cause the high oil consumption but will have nothing to do with the coolant loss.

Does the engine missfire for the first few seconds after start up or is the white steam coming from the exhaust.

It maybe that the head gasket is leaking causing the coolant loss. If this turns out to be the case, have the valve guides replaced whilst the head is off.

Jodie, I hope you are only jossing, sounds a bit terminal to me, sounds like a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Have you been running a mercedes Benz coolant, because with alloy heads it is essential otherwise you get corrison and then the trouble begins. How is the performance. rough idle or lacking power and fuel comsumption up.

RE: Oil and Water disappearing

I wish i was joking [:(]

The car has been pinging too we think.
The coolant has not been changed since i bought the car 6 months ago. Have no idea wat coolant was used, but chances are.. cheap stuff [xx(]

The oil isnt frothy or milky either.

Once i find out more about the pinging ill post up for some opinions.

RE: Oil and Water disappearing

If it is pinging, it usually means the mixture is lean, You havent stuck standard unleaded in the car it is 91 octane. Premium unleaded is what the car is designed to run on. 190E are renown for doing head gaskets. Get a compression check done and it will show which cylinder is down which might explain why it is pinging. The car is probably running on 3 fully operational cyclinders instead of 4. Sounds like you have a sick puppy. Better win Lotto soon.
Sometimes head gaskets when they go do not let water into the oil but blow the water out the tailpipe thus the oil level does not go up or go milky. In regards to the electrical fault I be checking the earth connections. Check the previous post in this section they show where the earth connections are it will be a few pages back. If you decide to send it to an auto electrican to do the work I would go to a Benz specialist does not have to be Benz authorised dealer as he will have the correct wiring diagram normal auto electricans don't really know what they are doing and can take short cuts to fix the initial problem but put strains on the electrical circuit elsewhere. As you have only owned the car 6 months you might have to sought out the gremlins of the previous owner.
Regards
Bob
