I have a MB 190E 2,3 (1986). The problem is that the idle running suddenly became uneven. The economy gauge is“nt any moore at zero (as normally at idle runnig) but rises to 1/4 of full range. Any hints ?.
hmmm. mine has always idled with the economy guage at about 1/4. if you think about it, it really should be at full, since you're using gas and going nowhere.

The gauge works directly from the vacuum in the inlet manifold, so when idling, there is little vacuum as the throttle flap is shut, that's why it isn't at full at idle.

There is a hose hooked up to the valve cover breather under the air cleaner assembly, the plastic hose is hard plastic and get brittle over time, cracked, air will leak and cause hard to start and bad idling. Get a vacuu m hose 5/32 and replace it, it will be as good as new with the body throttle cleaner.
