Poor cold starting...esp in summer weather.

My car has had starting issues since I've had it, last summer was esp bad until I got the mix sorted. Then the autumn and winter came round and starting improved
so I thought no more of it.

Then as the temps picked up again this year poor starting re-appeared.

So it seems to be that warmer weather = poor starting on a "cold" engine. I could live with this knowing for half the year it wont really be a problem but I'd like to get this sorted out for once and for all if I can without spending big money.

Now any ideas from ppl who have had same symptoms? :)

RE: Poor cold starting...esp in summer weather.

Have you checked out the information regarding over voltage protection relay?

The MB OVP is notorious for causing hard cold start problems...

Just trying to help thanks.

I have thought about the OVP but I dont know whay ambient temps make a difference - I did dest the Relay
and the diode reading was varible, between 400-1500mv
which is the right range but like say the reading would'nt settle - it kept bouncing between the two numbers.

Is it? I dunno which part of the trouble! Just to
makes things a little worse I've also got a rough idle on a warm engine.

Hello Mike,

I thought you found good ovp test procedures on mercedes shop .com?

A rough idle could be caused by the fuel to air mix...

Which I have read the test procedure for that using an oscilliscope[sp?]...

When it comes to adjusting the fuel mix and electronic controls, I would prefer finding a good dyno shop to dial it in with it on the dynometer...

They can adjust for most powerfull settings, or most fuel economy settings, or maybe somewhere happily in between those two extremes...

Just trying to be helpful, thanks.

I have a thread on mercedes shop

http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforu...650#post684650

but its not yet much help. I think I may order a new OVP if I dont get a defintive answer they're not too expensive. The rough hot idle is wierd as it seems to have come on from nowhere. I disconnected the air-flow sensor Potentiometer to see if that might help then went for a 15 min spin but no better, though the car seemed to run nicer when on the move (a bit more oumph).

Oh well I'll keep looking...[:(]

RE: Poor cold starting...esp in summer weather.

I checked out that mercedesshop.com posting...

That dude wore me out with that E=MC squared stuff!

Anyway I pulled my [new] spare OVP out the box and on the side is a schematic...

The only thing I can ascertain by that is the fact there are two circuits... with a fuse for each one...

The reason that I mention it is someone somewhere stated that they thought the second fuse was just an extra or backup...

Sorry I am not anymore help than that.

Thats the 2.3/2.6 spec, my euro 2.0 has just one 10A fuse, which is fine or was the last time I looked.

RE: Poor cold starting...esp in summer weather.

I disconnected the potentiometer on the air mass sensor its started first time everytime since. I dunno if I've been lucky or if the two are connected. I'll give it another day or two then re-connect and see if anything changes.
