Hello folks. I want to change the blower motor on my car and i was wondering if i could get some info on how to do it. I know that u have to remove the viper assembly and leaf guard in order to reach the motor. How to remove the viper assembly? If someone knows of any info available online, i'll really appreciate if they could direct me to it. Thanx in advance.

I strongly recommend the HAYNES 1984-1988 190E/D manual [internet ordered @$13 USD] for this type of repair... if your are not familiar with this type of repair at all...
There is a newer HAYNES manual that covers something like 1987-1993 190E/D models at @$25 USD internet ordered...
If you plan on going on a "search and destroy" type repair I have a little info to get you started...
"...Open hood/ bonnet to the vertical position...
At the base of the windsheild is the air inlet mesh/screen...
You need to remove the air inlet mesh/screen...
Which also requires removal of the wiper arm... it is not pressed on it has a nut fastening it down... with a flip back cover to reveal the nut...
Once you have removed the windsheild wiper arm and motor you should be getting closer to your destiny...
Without destroying anything [hence the "search and destroy" style repair] safely remove whatever is in your way of getting to the blower motor...
Removing the wiper motor assembly is pretty straight forward, however getting the blower motor housing cover off and removing the motor can by trying. The cover is held on with long spring clamps that wrap all across the top. Just take your time, go slow, and you won't break anything.
Thank u so much 190e-2.6 and MTI 4 the info. I infact do have the HAYNES manual at home, but iam not sure how much helpful its gonna be.I'll work on it tomorrow and i think its gonna b a combination of HAYNES and the search n distroy type repair, see how it goes. Thanx again guys.
Hello guys. I started working on it this morning but wasent a very good start. I cant even remove the wiper arm.How do i remove that big cover outlined in the picture attached. I tried using a screw driver to remove it but ended up damaging the plastic. Is there a way to remove it or u just pull it?
I have done some research and found out that there r screws on the lower side of the wiper arm main cover or cap which have to b opened in order to remove the cap.Is that the way? Does anyone have any information on how 2 remove the main cover??

According to the book that cover just flips one way or the other to reveal a retaining nut...
I think it flips upward from the bottom to release it...
First you'll have to remove the mesh cover at the bottom of the windshield. After that is removed go through and loosen up the bolts connecting the wiper motor (3 or 4 I believe) *note you are not disconnecting the motor from the linkage you are disconnecting the motor from the where it bolts to the chassis* and disconnect the plug for the motor if you can get your hands on it, if you can't its alright since there will be enough slack when you pull the entire assembly out.
Then disconnect the wiper assembly from the firewall (1 bolt or nut, I can't remember), and disconnect any nuts or bolts attaching the wiper assembly to anything (if I remember there might be 3 or 4 nuts above the blower motor box). And then disconnect the firewall section directly in front of the wiper assembly (it will be held in by plastic plug style fasteners). You can now remove the wiper arm cover from the wiper assembly by flipping up the piece at the base of the arm to reveal a hex bolt.
*Note* the area in which you circled is part of the wiper assembly, the area which will flip up is on the arm, not the assembly.
After you take off the arm, you should have enough remove to now move the entire wiper arm assembly (including motor around). Be careful and go slow at this, it will come out if you move it down and towards the passenger side.
The blower motor box has 6 or 8 brass colored straps holding it together, disconnect the straps and the box will open. Disconnect the strap holding the motor in place and unplug the motor. Take careful note of which way the motor is facing as well as which which way the cages are oriented (if you just bought the motor and not the entire unit). Put everything back together making sure the spacing on the cages is correct and not rubbing into the box.
Close the box up, and put everything back together.
Off the top of my head this is all I could remember from doing this on my 190E last year before I traded it in.
Also I'd recommend a MB service manual CD more so than any Haynes manual as far as repairs go. I bought one (a Haynes manual) for a 300SD a few years back and the information was pretty much useless except for some torque specs.
Thanx PhilK 4 the info. Its great help. Since removing the mesh or leaf guard is the 1st step, is it removeable with the wiper assembly still attached? How do u remove it, it seemed to be pined underneath the assembly. Yeah the Haynes manual has very limited info in it. It only shows u how 2 remove the viper blade. So where can i get the CD from, a local MB dealer ship?
