My '88 190e/2.3 idles at about 800 - 1000rpm after a cold start but once it warms up it won't drop below 1700rpm. In fact, it likes to race up to 2200 - 2500 rpm while in neutral but I hit the accelerator quickly to make it drop to 1700rpm.
Any ideas? Is this due to a faulty idle control valve? Would a faulty OVP relay cause the same behavior?
RE: Help! Normal idle when Cold/ High idle when Hot
I would say the idle control valve/unit – the bane of all eighties Mercedes with CIS e fuel systems. [:(] I had the same problem and a new valve and unit fixed it right up – hope this helps![:)]

RE: Help! Normal idle when Cold/ High idle when Hot
Well, after seeing how much the Idle Control Valve cost for my '88 190e ($200+) I opted to try the OVP relay first ($70).
That really helped other problems but not the high idle. Alas, I found a place in Chicago called Ideal Auto run by a guy named Alex. I just ordered a used Idle Control Valve from him at a mere $35. I know, you get what you pay for, but I couldn't resist. I've bought parts from him before with no problem so I think the risk is minimal.
He ships fast so I expect to receive it within the next couple of days and will let you know if it does the trick.
