Brown sludge in coolant. Suspected head gasket, but 3 people have claimed that transmission fluid can enter coolant if radiator leaks internally. Is this possible??
Actually its completely realistic to get trans fluid in your radiator. Your transmission has cooler lines that go to the radiator. Inside the radiator is a built in trans fluid cooler. If it cracks inside... Trans fluid in coolant.. If you want to very if it is trans fluid. Check your trans fluid if it milky..almost jelly like... you have coolant in it.. I would bet its probaly just a HG though
PS im a Benz technician and i happen to love scifi shows.
Trans fluid in the coolant IS possible and common. This indicates a bad trans cooler in the rad. Your fluid will look like a strawbery shake. Head gasket is more common and the coolant will look like a coffee shake. Either way, not good. Oil and rubber don't get along very well. After the repair, EXTENSIVE flushing will be required. Depending on how long the oil has been in there will determine the extent of the damage. Remember that the heater core, heater valve, waterpump, aux pump, all hoses and the radiator have rubber in them. These rubbers will start to "grow", so flushing is important. The best way I have found is to use water and lestoil. This breaks down the oil. You must flush the system at least 10 times with water and lestoil before a 50-50 mix is installed. Keep filling, running flushing filling running flushing....till no more oil droplets are seen in the water. Be patient.. it's worth it in the long run...
