Hello everyone.I know this topic has been discussed many times but iam kinda confused right now, so any help will be appreciated. According to my knowledge, there r 4 spring pads in the front and 3 in the back, each with a 5mm increment.Heres the current info about the car.
Year model:89 2.6
Height: measuring from the center of the fender lip arc to the ground, fr 26.5", rear 25".
I have 0 knowledge about the offset issue. The car has the original MB 15" rims which iam planning to upgrade to 16x7.5's. I want to lower the car down but at the same time, i dont wanna make it dropped. Basically i just wanna hide the strut.
Keeping all this in mind, how many pads should b removed. Is it necessary to lower both front and back equally or just the front can b lowered alone? The height in the attached image is the one i had in mind.Thanx in advance.
in my opinion you can go with eibachsprings.they will have the drop your lookin for.also try h&r.i have eibach sport springs and some 16x8 inch. rims.the ride is stiffer than stock ofcourse but it did not compromise the turning radius.with 215-45-16 tires they are just lined up with the wheel wells.eibach springs are about $200.this is on an 87 190 2.3 hope to have been some help.
Here's what I would do, park the car on level ground with at least a half a tank of gas and tire pressure checked. Step back and see if the car is level or raked, and if raked, in what direction. If you're satisfied with the "level" of the car, then you should consider keeping the spring pads the same, perhaps just putting in new ones of the same value. Otherwise, you'll have to figure how much you can do with just pads alone. They only vary in 5mm increments. If you have No. 4 (23mm) in front and No. 3 (18mm) in back, you're running the largest pads available front and rear. 5mm is 0.2 inches, so in the front, the most you might expect the pads to give you is 0.6 inches. In the rear, it's barely 0.4 inches when you go to the smallest pad. Lowering springs such as Eibach or H&R will give you a 1.5 to 2" drop at each wheel.
Thanx MTI 4 the valueable info.So the pads wont make a noticeable difference, hummmmmmmmm.I parked the car as u said and saw it from the side, iam not satisfied with the height, see the attached image, Mine is the top silver 1.Other is 4 the comparison. As u can see, the rear looks almost equal but my front is a little higher, how bout if i just lower it from the front? can it work?
I've parked my car next to some other 89,190E's 2.6, and 4 some reason, mine sits a little higher than the others.May be the previous owner altered it in some way, i dont know. Also, as i mensioned b 4, iam gonna upgrade the rims with 16x7.5's and will go with either 205-45-16 or 215-45-16.Do u think its gonna make any difference and will hide the struts? on the other hand if i replace the springs with Eibach or H&R, r they gonna b stiffer than the stock ones? If yes, is their any brand available which can lower the car down and still maintain the stock comfort? caus i really dont wanna make my car any stiffer. Thanx.
It is hard to tell from the pictures any real difference in the "wheel gap" between the silver and red cars, in the front wheel well. Perhaps all you need is the 0.6 inch drop that the smallest front pads would give you. With regard to lowering springs, it's generally felt that the Eibach is less harsh than the H&R coils, to the point where some enthusiasts call them "Eibounce" however they're probably the closest to keeping the ride as close to OEM smooth. Lowering springs will always have a higher spring rate (stiffness) and it is stronly recommended that you use "sport" struts and shocks, since lowering springs shorten the travel of OEM shocks and wear them out faster.
Thanx MTI once again. We'll it seems like iam gonna have to skip the idea of changing the coils, it seems like a hassel. For now i think iam gonna replace just the front ones with #1's and see how it looks.May replace the rear 1's later some time. Thanx again.
