I recently bought a 190E 2.6L ('91 model) and I am very happy with it. However, I found the throttle response in acceleration from standstill to be a bit soft and I have to press the pedal about an inch before the car starts to roll. Is that normal? Is there anyway I could make the acceleration from standstill a bit more brisk and urgent? Any suggestion/advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
The W201, and most Mercedes from that period, do a soft 2nd gear start. Try slipping the trans to 2nd before hitting the gas and you should notice a better getaway. Some drivers use 2nd while doing in - town stop and go driving and then shift into D on the freeway, expressway. You'll notice some improvement in starts, but also a dip in MPG.
i own the 92 190e 2.3 auto. ....but drive it like its a 5speed...i always use 2 then to 3 and at crusing speed in d ....for the longest time my friends thought i had a 5spd untill they drove w/ me......you lose bout 5-8mpg thou :(
