My 180E (190E 1.8) 5 speed manual has just had a bit of work on the dreaded Bosch Jetronic, including plugging a vacuum leak in the headlamp adjustment control. Drove it 592km between refills, half of which was leadfooted city/suburban driving, the other half freeway running at 100-110km/h. It returned 7.67l/100km, 37MPG imperial, 30.67MPG US. Quite happy with that!

I recently drove a Toyota Corolla with 6 speed manual transmission. I found that 1st on the Benz is lower than the Corolla, and 5th on the Benz is taller geared than 6th on the Corolla, so much bigger jumps from gear to gear on the Benz. And with just 154Nm of torque at a high-ish 3500rpm, you really need to work each gear.
