Hi, I'm new here and apologise in advance if I should've found a solution by searching the forum - I did look, but didn't find.
I have a 1993 2.6 petrol W201 (in the UK). It's been sitting unused for over a year, and had an intermittent stalling problem beforehand - it would always start, but occasionally cut out when driving, usually at low revs. It would always restart though.
Now I'm looking to put it back on the road, But it won't start.
I've done a fuel pressure test, and instead of the 5.3-5.5 bar system pressure that I should be getting, the gauge is oscillating between 2.5-3.0 bar every few seconds.
Had a look at the fuel pumps (it has two). The one nearer the tank is drawing about 11 amps, the other is only drawing about 4 amps and is a little noisier and warmer than the other one.
I'm suspecting the fuel pump is sick, but I'm wondering if there are other tests I can do before replacing the pump - they're not cheap.
I haven't done a fuel flow check yet - I think 1 litre in 40 sec is the specced rate, so maybe that's my next check?
also, how can I rule out a faulty accumulator?
Many thanks for any help offered,
Peter
