Hi Guys.
Just passing on some experience with my recent use of the iridium spark plug.
I've replaced my spark plug with the standard copper-type over a year ago and have been cleaning it and adjusting the gap to spec to keep it in best performance, etc.
A couple of weeks back, I noticed my engine started to shrug a little and thought it was time to clean and regap. So I did; took them out, clean, regap and re-installed. Even after all that cleaning, it still shrugs a little and thought I should just replaced them.
So, online I went and started searching for a replacement. Long story short, I bought 6 iridium spark plugs($31 aarrgg). It's more expensive than the regular copper plug. When I received the iridium plugs, I started to think whether it was worth it and thought of sending it back and get the copper plugs and just replace every year...I didn't and since I already have them, might as well try it.
With the copper plugs, on a full tank of gas, I'd get about 250 miles(barely) and I'd be pushing it.
On my first week of using the iridium plugs on a full tank of gas, I registered 270 miles and had spare in tank(not reserve). I thought that was a fluke. I got another full tank, reset the meter, and again I registered 270 miles with gas left on tank(not reserve - no light).
From this experience, I can safely say the iridium plugs works much better. I got more miles per gallon....and the good part is, the engine doesn't shrug anymore. : )
If anyone have a good idea to get more mileage out of our 190e 2.6, please share...I'd love to try it. : )
