Well. I'm sitting at a gas station right off the highway. The car was getting warm so I pulled over to check it. I went to pull the transmission stick. I hear a pop and there is no scale on it anymore. What should I do?
maybe one of those long flexible magnet rods. Otherwise you could pull the tranny pan and pull the piece out from below. Or pull the dipstick tube which is a pita ..
EDIT: i think i misunderstood you , are you waiting there afraid to drive the car ?? I'm pretty sure it wont hurt anything to drive it, the piece should remain lodged in the dipstick tube, if its short enough to fall out the bottom than it would sit in the pan, the filter would stop it from getting sucked up. I would just drive it home and fix it, if it were me. Maybe someone else can confirm it isn't an issue for at least getting home..
It's not a big problem. Next time you change the transmission filter, just pull the broken end off from below. Until then, it won't cause any problem. The dipstick comes up on EBay regularly, or buy new at a dealer.
I'm almost positive the broken piece will lay in the pan. Maybe stick a powerful magnet (hard drive magnet) in the corner of the pan. The filter will catch it if it does get sucked up.
Confirmed!! Dipstick is broken and end is still in pipe! I cannot get the dipstick in! I will have to take the tube out when I change the fluid to get the broken piece out.
